GIF Toolkit Guide / Help (legacy alias)

The old name for the help node, and why its panel stays blank

GIF Toolkit Guide / Help (legacy alias)

This node is a fossil, and knowing that saves you an afternoon. WebexGIFGuide is the on-canvas help node registered under the pack's old name. The project was renamed at some point - the pack ships three WebexGIF* aliases specifically so workflows built before the rename keep loading instead of throwing missing-node errors.

Functionally it is the current GIF Toolkit Guide: no inputs, no outputs, OUTPUT_NODE = True, and a function that returns an empty tuple. It exists to give the help panel something to hang off.

There's one wrinkle, and it's the reason this node gets its own page.

The help panel does not render on this node

The help content isn't Python. It's HTML injected by the pack's frontend extension, and that extension opens with an explicit guard: it only attaches to the node whose class name is GIFToolkitGuide. Anything else, including this alias, is skipped.

So a WebexGIFGuide on your canvas is a titled, completely empty box that runs and does nothing visible. It's not broken and it's not a bad install - the panel was never wired to this name. If you want the guide, right-click the node, delete it, and add GIF Toolkit Guide / Help from the GIF Toolkit category. Same behavior, plus text.

Why you might still meet one

Load any workflow shared before the rename and this is the node you'll see in section 0. Nothing downstream depends on it: it has no sockets, so deleting it can't break a wire. It's safe to leave, safe to remove, and worth replacing if you're the one who'll be staring at the canvas next month.

      Inputs and outputs

None, in either direction. That's not an omission in the docs - the class literally declares an empty INPUT_TYPES and an empty RETURN_TYPES. There is nothing to configure and nothing to connect.

      Install

It ships with the pack, so it's already there if you have the pack:

      cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
      git clone https://github.com/oekobudde/ComfyUI-GIFToolkit.git

Manager → search GIF Toolkit → Install does the same. Restart ComfyUI fully, since the frontend extensions that draw the pack's canvases and panels only register at startup. No pip dependencies come with the pack; the workflow it's designed for needs ComfyUI-VideoHelperSuite installed separately.

      Common issues

Empty node body. As above, expected on this alias - the panel is bound to GIFToolkitGuide. If even the current guide node shows nothing, then it's a stale browser cache or a failed extension load: hard-refresh, restart ComfyUI, and check the terminal for a startup error.

"Missing node type" after installing a newer pack version. That's the alias working as intended, in reverse: the alias is what stops your old workflow from breaking. If you see it anyway, the pack isn't installed at all - the aliases live in the same file as everything else.

It runs on every Run. Yes, output nodes always execute. There's no work in the function, so the cost is nil. If it bothers you, delete it; nothing in the pack reads it.
