Grid Style (Shadow)
Drop shadow or glow, and setting it to off is a feature
- style
- style
Per-cell drop shadow, or per-cell glow. That's the node. It's the smallest member of the chained Grid Style family and it exists for two reasons: so shadow can be a wired boolean rather than a checkbox buried in a panel, and so you can cancel a shadow that something upstream set.
That second one is unusual enough to point at. shadow is a BOOLEAN, default on, and turning it off doesn't just skip adding a shadow - it overwrites an upstream shadow to off, because the aspect nodes claim the keys they own and pass everything else through. So a chain can be: all-in-one Grid Style with a shadow you like → Shadow node per variant → one variant with shadow = false. Same sheet, flat.
The fields
shadow_mode is drop or glow. drop is one Gaussian blur at an offset, and the offsets (shadow_offset_x default 0, shadow_offset_y default 10) are the direction and distance. glow is symmetric - a tight bright core lightened with a wide soft halo - so both offsets are ignored. The compositor builds them differently on purpose: a glow shouldn't look like a shadow pointed straight down.
shadow_blur (18) is the radius, up to 256. shadow_color (#000000) and shadow_opacity (0.45, 0 to 1) set the tint and strength. shadow_match is the one with a dependency: it tints the glow with each cell's auto border colour, which means it only does anything when a Border node upstream has border_mode = auto. Border first, then Shadow, and the bloom picks up whatever colour each image's dominant pixels suggested.
The combination that earns this node its keep is glow + a big blur + shadow_match + a transparent Background Maker ground. Each image sits in its own pool of its own colour against nothing, which is the "floating gallery" look and takes about thirty seconds to set up.
Optional input style, optional output style.
Install
Manager → search Nynxz → ComfyUI-NynxzNodes, or:
comfy node install comfyui-nynxz-nodes
From source:
cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
git clone https://github.com/Nynxz/ComfyUI-NynxzNodes
cd ComfyUI-NynxzNodes
pnpm install && pnpm build
Restart. No models, no Python dependencies; this is PIL blur in a loop.
Troubleshooting
Offsets do nothing in glow mode. Correct - the tooltip says so, and it's easy to miss. Glow is symmetric by definition.
The glow is grey instead of coloured. shadow_match needs border_mode = auto on a Border node upstream. With a solid or gradient border there's no per-cell colour to borrow, and the glow falls back to shadow_color.
The shadow gets cut off at the edge. The compositor clips at the canvas boundary, so a 100px blur with a 60px offset needs room. That's what padding on a Layout node is for - raise it before you blame the shadow.
Setting shadow = false doesn't help. Then your chain isn't a chain: an unwired style input means this node started from defaults, so it's not overwriting anything - and whatever you thought was upstream is going into a different wire. Check where the grid's style input actually comes from.
Two grids, one shadowed one not. You're probably feeding both from one Border/Layout node and only the variant with the Shadow node gets the override. That's the intended way to make variants; use it instead of rebuilding the style twice.
The unglamorous truth: this is polish. A shadow adds nothing to your images. It adds a lot to whether a sheet looks like a poster or a staging area, and if you're posting grids anywhere, that's worth ten minutes.
