Booru Tags or Plain English, Twelve Bucks a Thousand Images
- images
- task id
Anime illustration at a fixed ~1 megapixel, nine aspect ratios, no content filter, and a price of $0.012 an image. That last number is the interesting one: you're paying a bit over a penny to not think about samplers, VAE choice, upscalers or which of the four thousand Pony merges you installed last month.
What Neta Lumina is
It's Neta.art Lab's anime fine-tune of Lumina-Image-2.0 - the Alpha-VLLM base whose Apache-2.0 weights seeded several mid-2025 experiments, including OnomaAI's short-lived Illustrious-Lumina run. The original release threads did respectably on r/StableDiffusion for a small-lab drop (the official open-source announcement cleared +100 in July 2025), and the model has kept a modest but real following since - a few dozen threads in the corpus rather than thousands, which for an anime model outside the Pony/Illustrious duopoly is a decent showing. It's not the model anyone argues about. It's the one that quietly makes a nice picture.
The prompting paradigm is the thing to internalise. This is a booru-trained model, so it wants Danbooru tags - 1girl, long hair, looking at viewer, dutch angle - and it will also accept plain sentences and mixtures of both, which is a real convenience compared to the SDXL-era models where mixing paradigms measuredly degrades output. Tags are precision: they resolve to specific poses, outfits and named characters. Prose is for mood and composition.
Inputs and outputs
Four required inputs, and that's the whole node:
- prompt - Danbooru-style tags, natural language, or both.
- aspect_ratio - default 1:1, nine options.
- output_format -
jpegby default; PNG and WebP also available. Choose PNG if you intend to upscale or composite; the JPEG artifacts are the first thing an upscaler will find. - seed - same seed and settings, same result.
Outputs are images (a single IMAGE despite the plural name) and task id. Wire images into Save Image, a preview node, or an upscaler. The task id is the handle support asks for if something fails.
No negative prompt, no sampler, no CFG, no step count - that's the point of the facade. If you need those knobs, you need a local model.
Installing it
ComfyUI Manager → search SpicyAPI → install → restart. Or:
cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
git clone https://github.com/spicyapi-ai/comfyui-spicyapi
Restart ComfyUI, then open Settings > SpicyAPI and paste a key from spicyapi.ai/console/keys. One more restart so the node menu is built from your account catalogue - the node list is generated at startup, so nothing appears until then. On a server, set SPICY_API_KEY. The pack declares no dependencies; there's no checkpoint to download and no Lightning/Lumina node pack to install, which is genuinely the appeal here, because getting Lumina-Image-2.0 running locally usually means hunting a diffusion-pack node someone else maintains.
Where the pennies add up
$0.012 an image is the kind of price that encourages brute force: sixty variations is seventy-two cents, and a "let me just try fifty more prompts" session is real money if you don't watch it. Set Max cost per run in Settings > SpicyAPI so a mis-set num_outputs on some other node can't ambush you - the pack checks the quote before creating a task and refuses anything over your ceiling. Seeds default to fixed, deliberately, so re-queueing the same graph reuses the first image instead of paying for a second; switch control after generate to randomize when you want new takes.
The things you can't change are worth knowing up front: your prompt leaves your machine on every call, and the model's own filter decides what it will draw. The brief says there's no content filter on this one, but the node is still a hosted service - if a request comes back rejected, nothing on the ComfyUI side can argue. Failed runs aren't charged unless the model page says otherwise.
