VELVET VICE KREA — Refinement Preview
The refinement preview that stays out of the way

"VELVET VICE KREA - Refinement Preview" is the CREATE branch's after-refinement checkpoint in the Velvet Vice Krea 2 Vision Prompter workflow. An image goes in, a preview gets saved, and the same image comes out the other side. If that sounds a lot like its sibling "Create Base Preview," that's because it is - just positioned one stage later and labeled to match.
What it actually does
The workflow's CREATE studio runs base render → mild refinement → detailer → SeedVR2. This node sits right after the refinement sampler. Internally it calls ComfyUI's own PreviewImage node, saves the file with the fixed VELVET_VICE_KREA_CREATE_REFINEMENT_PREVIEW prefix, and returns the tensor untouched with a status of "CREATE refinement complete - after Mild Refinement."
The key word is passthrough. Unlike the mode-aware "Create Refinement Preview" output node, this one has no workflow_mode input and no lazy logic - it's a dumb, honest pipe that happens to also snap a screenshot. You put it inline when you want the refined image to keep flowing downstream while you get a saved record of this exact stage. The filename prefix is what makes it worth having over a plain PreviewImage: when you've queued a dozen batches, VELVET_VICE_KREA_CREATE_REFINEMENT_PREVIEW_00012_.png is a lot easier to find than a wall of identical ComfyUI_ names.
Inputs and outputs
One of each, both IMAGE:
- images - the refined image from the second sampler.
- image - the same image, unchanged, ready to continue to the detailer or final output.
That's the entire surface. If you don't need the preview saved but still want the pass-through, you don't need this node at all - any wire in ComfyUI passes an image along. It exists purely to give you a labeled mid-pipeline artifact.
Installing it
Same as every node in this pack - it's one of the thirteen VelvetViceKrea* classes bundled in velvet-vice-krea:
cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
git clone https://github.com/Velvet-Vice/velvet-vice-krea
Then restart ComfyUI, or search "VELVET VICE - KREA" in ComfyUI Manager. No dependencies to install, no models to download - the Krea 2 model that produces the refined image is a separate thing you bring to the workflow yourself.
The gotcha to remember
The output of this node is identical to its input, so if you ever see "refined" images that don't look refined, don't blame this node - it's not doing any processing, by design. Trace back to the sampler. And if you were expecting branch-awareness (skipping when the mode isn't CREATE), that's the other refinement preview node, VelvetViceKreaCreateRefinementPreview, which does exactly that. The naming between the two is the most confusing part of this pack, and it's worth knowing which one you've actually got on your canvas.
