[SSN] Input Font
A font picker with a dozen bundled TTFs, hiding under the 'sd' menu
- FONT
[SSN] Input Font is how this pack picks a typeface. It lists the fonts sitting in the pack's resources/fonts folder, you pick one, and out comes a FONT value that you wire into SsnDrawText's font_name socket. On its own it does nothing; paired with Draw Text it's the difference between "comic sans vibes" and "pixel-art HUD" in one dropdown.
It ships with a dozen real fonts: Arial, Arial Bold, Arial Black, Cabal, Cabal Bold, Aovel Sans Rounded, ChrustyRock, Freedom, PixelLetters, ShortBaby, SuperFunky and SuperShiny. That's a genuinely decent spread - clean sans, display faces, a pixel font, a funky script - enough to cover "text overlay on a thumbnail" and "game-style UI" without you touching a font file.
Here's a trick the docs don't tell you: the dropdown is built by scanning the fonts directory at startup, so you can drop your own .ttf file into ComfyUI/custom_nodes/smn_support_nodes/src/smn_support_nodes/resources/fonts/ (or wherever the pack lives), restart ComfyUI, and it'll show up in the list. That's the whole mechanism - get_font_files() lists every .ttf it finds, sorted by name. No font registry, no system font lookup, just that folder.
One quirk you'll notice immediately: the node lands under the sd menu category, which is odd for a font picker. That's because the author left the CATEGORY attribute off this class entirely, so ComfyUI slotted it into its default bucket. Harmless, mildly confusing, and worth knowing so you don't spend five minutes hunting for it under "input."
The FONT output is just the filename string - that's all the node returns. Draw Text uses it to load the TTF at its text_size, and if you ever pick "default" instead, Draw Text falls back to PIL's tiny built-in bitmap font, which is fine for debugging and cramped for anything else.
Install
Part of smn_support_nodes by SummonTheCat. ComfyUI Manager → search smn_support_nodes → Install → restart, or:
cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
git clone https://github.com/SummonTheCat/smn_support_nodes
Restart after installing. Dependencies (opencv-python, imageio-ffmpeg) auto-install; the fonts ship with the pack, so no separate downloads.
Troubleshooting
The two things that bite: forgetting to restart after adding a font to the folder (the list is built at startup), and picking a font name that isn't in the list - Draw Text will throw a "Font file not found" error, so if you've hand-typed a name instead of using the dropdown, that's on you. If Draw Text is rendering text in a chunky pixel font you didn't ask for, check that you're actually connected to this node and not leaving font_name at its "default" state.
