Once you're generating a character's gallery of images - different outfits, different scenes - the annoying part isn't generating, it's organizing. Where did that good one go, and is it filed under the right character? Save Image to Library is the filing cabinet half of the Steaked-nodes library system: it takes the image from your sampler and saves it directly into a specific character's gallery, inside the same library database that the Prompt Library node manages.

The mechanism is a real ComfyUI-style save, not a hack. It writes proper PNG files into custom_nodes/Steaked-nodes/library/<character_id>/images/ and, importantly, embeds the same metadata that ComfyUI's own SaveImage writes - the prompt and workflow chunks - so the saved images carry their full generation info and can be dragged back onto the canvas to reconstruct the workflow. That's the workflow-in-the-image convention done right, not a stripped copy. It also stamps a timestamp into every filename so reruns don't collide, and it appends each saved file to the character's gallery entry in library.json.

    The inputs that matter

    • image - what you're saving, straight from a VAE Decode.
    • mode - auto or manual. This is the one to understand.
    • character_id / character_name - used in manual mode to pick the destination.

In auto mode the node walks your workflow's graph, finds the SteakedLibrary node, reads which character is selected there, and saves to that character - so you pick the character once in the library and every Save node downstream just follows along. In manual mode you set the character yourself via the node's widget, which is what you want if there's no library node in the graph at all. If no character can be resolved, it logs and skips rather than crashing.

It's an output node with no outputs - it's a terminal, a sink for your pixels.

    Where it fits

This is the save-side of the library workflow: Prompt Library defines the character stack, you generate, Save Image to Library files the result. If you're building a reference set for a character you'll keep coming back to, this replaces the "save, then manually drag into a folder named after them" chore. And because the saved PNGs keep their metadata, the gallery doubles as a browsable history where every image is a working workflow.

    Install

    Part of Steaked-nodes:

    cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
    git clone https://github.com/StealthNinja1O1/Steaked-nodes

Restart, or install via ComfyUI Manager ("Steaked-nodes"). No extra dependencies or downloads.

    Common issues

The big one: if nothing saves, it's almost always because mode is auto and no SteakedLibrary node with a selected_character is present in the workflow - the node resolves the character by scanning the graph and bails silently if it finds none. Switch to manual and set the character yourself. If files land but you can't find them, they're not in ComfyUI's normal output folder - they're in the library's per-character images folder under the custom node directory. And remember it writes PNGs only; if you feed it a batch, every frame becomes its own file, which is great for animation frames but a surprise if you expected one image.
