The Lite tier, and why it isn't the boring one

Seedream 5.0 arrived as a preview in February 2026 and split into Lite and Pro. Lite is the one that shows up in pricing threads - people treat it as the workhorse tier, the one you use when you're iterating and don't want to pay Pro rates for a draft. Reasonable instinct, and this node is where that happens: reference image plus instruction, hosted, metered.

It's an instruction-edit shaped node - you give it image_urls, you tell it what to change - so it competes with the same job the community hands to Qwen-Image-Edit locally. The difference: no 20B model on your card, and your input image goes to ByteDance's API. Seedream has no open weights, so there's no local version to compare against; that's the honest reason a node like this exists at all.

Inputs that matter

  • prompt - the edit instruction, documented as 3 to 3000 characters. Note the minimum: an empty prompt isn't a valid "just clean it up" request.
  • image_urls - a native IMAGE batch socket. Multiple references are the point on this endpoint, which makes it useful for "take this pose and this material" style instructions rather than single-image restyles.
  • aspect_ratio - required, defaulting to 1:1.
  • quality - required, and this is the Lite tier's headline feature: basic gives you 2K, high 3K, ultra 4K. Three rungs rather than two, so you can climb gradually instead of jumping from draft to poster.
  • output_format - png or jpeg, optional here (the 4.5 nodes didn't have it).
  • nsfw_checker - default True on this node. Flip it deliberately; the tooltip's own caveat is that filtering can't guarantee much either way.
  • timeout_seconds - 1200 by default, up to 7200. callback_url - leave empty.

Outputs: image, url, all_urls_json, task_id, raw_json, credits_consumed, credits_left. The credit pair matters more on a tiered node than it does elsewhere, because "which tier did I actually run" is now a variable you control per call.

Install

cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes
git clone https://github.com/felipederosilva/ComfyUI-KIE-Nodes-Next
pip install -r ComfyUI-KIE-Nodes-Next/requirements.txt

Restart, then one-time key setup at Settings → KIE.ai Nodes Next → Connection. The pack tests the key against KIE before saving it, keeps it out of the workflow, and shows your balance next to the CONNECTED status. Only four Python dependencies, all light.

Using it well

Iterate at basic, commit at ultra. That's the whole strategy, and it's what the pricing-level discussion around Lite keeps circling - the resolution tier is the lever that determines whether a session costs pocket change or a subscription.

Two habits from the edit-model world that transfer straight over. First, be explicit about what must not change, the way the endpoint's own example prompt is ("keep the pose and the flowing shape unchanged"). Second, if identity matters, don't trust a chain: the model re-emits the whole frame, so crop-and-stitch around the region you care about rather than running three full-frame edits in a row.

One thing to expect as the family moves: Seedream 5.0 coverage in the wild is unusually marketing-heavy - plenty of threads read like vendor placement, with the same hosting-platform name repeated across posts. The generation quality is real; the surrounding enthusiasm isn't always organic. Judge it on your own test image before you build a pipeline around it.
