Seedream4.5 - Text to Image

What it is

The text-to-image half of the Seedream 4.5 pair. One prompt in, one image out, ByteDance's model running on KIE's servers. No weights on your disk and no local version to fall back on - Seedream has never shipped open, so this node is the only door into that model from ComfyUI.

The Seedream line has a real reputation for prompt adherence and clean graphic output rather than photorealism, and it's the family the ByteDance API-only track runs on. Seedream 4.5 sits mid-arc: 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, then the 5.0 Lite/Pro split. If a tutorial you found uses model names that don't match this node's menu, you're in a different generation.

Inputs, briefly and exactly

Unusually for this pack, four fields are marked required, so the node won't let you run on defaults alone:

• prompt - up to 3000 characters. The default text is a slab of marketing copy about a cafe-design tool, which is worth deleting immediately; it tells you the endpoint was documented with a commercial example, not that it wants long prompts.
• aspect_ratio - a required enum, defaulting to 1:1.
• quality - required. basic outputs 2K, high outputs 4K. This is the cost dial, and the jump is not cosmetic.
• nsfw_checker is optional here (default False on this node, unlike the Edit node where it defaults on) along with timeout_seconds (1200, up to 7200) and callback_url, which should stay empty for normal ComfyUI work.

Outputs: image, url, all_urls_json, task_id, raw_json, credits_consumed, credits_left.

Restart ComfyUI, then paste the key once at Settings → KIE.ai Nodes Next → Connection. Two things about that panel are worth knowing before you trust it: it tests the key with KIE before replacing a working one, and the stored key lives in ComfyUI's user directory rather than in your workflow - so the graph you share on a Discord doesn't carry your billing credentials. Headless installs can skip the UI with KIE_API_KEY in the environment.

When I'd actually reach for it

Be honest with yourself about the trade first. A local checkpoint is free per image; this is metered per image, forever. Two places it still wins: you have no GPU worth the name, or you want a specific hosted model's look and there's no local equivalent. Fine-art likeness aside, the Seedream family's strength is graphic and typographic composition - posters, packaging, editorial mockups - which is where the hosted frontier models keep their edge over what you can run at home.

Two practical warnings. quality=high doubles the resolution and moves the price, so iterate at basic. And ration it: a 4K reroll loop is the single easiest way to turn five dollars into one image you actually keep. Check the on-node credit receipt after each run, because that's the feedback loop the pack deliberately gives you.

The API-node caveat applies as always - prompts leave your machine and the provider's moderation runs on top of whatever you set locally. For stock-style generation that's a non-issue; for anything you'd rather not upload, stay local.
