Split an image into rippling RGB waves
WAS's own description is specific and a little unusual: "a image that uses a sinus frequency to break apart a image into RGB frequencies." In plain terms, it drives a distortion off a sine wave and applies it per color channel, so red, green, and blue end up shifted or offset differently across the frame - the result is a rippled, prismatic separation rather than a flat color split.
How it relates to chromatic aberration
The pack also has Image Chromatic Aberration, which applies the "lens fringing" look - a static, directional color offset that mimics real optical aberration. Nova Filter is a wilder relative of that same family of channel-separation effects, but where chromatic aberration is meant to look like a subtle camera flaw, Nova Filter's sine-wave-driven approach reads as deliberately abstract and psychedelic - think rippling, wave-distorted color bands rather than a barely-there lens artifact.
Why you'd reach for it
Trippy, sci-fi, glitch-art, or album-cover-style visuals where you want the image to look like it's being torn apart by interference rather than just shifted slightly out of register. It's a stylistic choice, not a corrective one - nobody reaches for this to fix a photo, only to deliberately break one in an interesting way.
The inputs and outputs that matter
An image in, a distorted image out, with the sine-wave frequency presumably exposed as a control (that's the core of what the README describes the effect as being built from). I can't confirm the exact parameter names from a schema, so I'm not going to invent widget labels - the frequency-driven, per-channel nature of the effect is the grounded part; the exact knobs are whatever's on the node once you drop it on the canvas.
How to install it
Bundled with the full WAS Node Suite:
- ComfyUI Manager - search "WAS Node Suite", install, restart.

No model download - a pure math-driven pixel effect.
Common issues & troubleshooting
It goes from "cool effect" to "abstract noise" very fast. Sine-wave-driven distortion effects tend to have a narrow sweet spot - a little frequency and amplitude reads as a stylish ripple, a lot turns the image into unrecognizable static. If your result looks like pure noise, dial back before assuming something's wrong with the node.
It doesn't look like chromatic aberration. That's expected - it's a different, more aggressive effect in the same conceptual family, not a reskin of it. If you actually wanted the subtle lens-fringe look, use Image Chromatic Aberration instead.
Standard pack caveat: WAS Node Suite has been unmaintained since December 2023, and the recurring issue is the whole suite failing to import after a ComfyUI update from a stale pinned dependency. Reinstall requirements.txt against the right Python environment if that hits you.
