This one node actually bundles three distinct looks, and WAS's README is specific about each:

• Digital Distortion - "a digital breakup distortion effect," the blocky, glitchy corruption look of digital signal failure.
• Signal Distortion - "an analog signal distortion effect on vertical bands like a CRT monitor," a subtler, older-tech wobble.
• TV Distortion - "a TV scanline and bleed distortion effect," the horizontal-line, slightly-bleeding-colors look of an old cathode-ray tube.

They're related in theme - all three are riffing on old or broken display/broadcast technology - but they're not interchangeable. Digital breakup and CRT scanlines read as completely different eras and completely different vibes even though they're one dropdown apart in the same node.

Why you'd reach for it

Retro aesthetic, glitch art, VHS/CRT nostalgia looks, or a deliberately "something's wrong with the signal" feel for stylized content. It's a fast way to get there without stacking several separate effect nodes - the pack ships this as one filter specifically because these three looks tend to get reached for in the same context.

The inputs and outputs that matter

An image in, a mode selection between the three effects above, and a distorted image out. Beyond picking the mode, I can't confirm the exact intensity/parameter widgets from a schema, so I won't invent field names - try each mode on the same source image and you'll feel the difference immediately.

How to install it

Bundled with the full WAS Node Suite:

• ComfyUI Manager - search "WAS Node Suite", install, restart.
• Manual - cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes && git clone https://github.com/WASasquatch/was-node-suite-comfyui, install requirements.txt (portable: python_embeded\python.exe -s -m pip install -r requirements.txt), restart.

Common issues & troubleshooting

Picked the wrong mode for the vibe you wanted. This is the most common actual "issue" - people expect one unified "retro filter" and get confused when Digital Distortion doesn't look anything like TV Distortion. They're deliberately different effects bundled for convenience, not variations on a theme. If the result doesn't match what you pictured, switch modes before assuming the node is broken.

Overdone at full strength. Like most stylized filters in this pack, these read as striking in moderation and as noise-soup if pushed too hard - especially Digital Distortion, which can go from "glitchy" to "illegible" fast. Start conservative and build up.

Standard pack caveat: WAS Node Suite has been unmaintained since December 2023, and the recurring gotcha is the whole suite throwing "Import Failed" after a ComfyUI update from a dependency-version clash. Reinstall requirements.txt against the correct Python environment if the suite won't load - this filter has no special dependency of its own.
