Cinematic Look (Mikey)

Cinematic Look is a one-dropdown color-grade node: pick a look, get a re-graded image back. No curves to drag, no LUT file to source and load, no color-science knowledge required. You feed it an image and choose from six baked-in presets - modern, retro, clipped, broadcast, black and white, and black and white - warm - and it returns the graded result.

It sits next to the pack's separately documented HaldCLUT node, which does LUT-based color grading from external .png LUT files, but Cinematic Look is its own, simpler thing: fixed presets, zero setup. If you've been generating a batch of images and want them to read as a consistent, matched set - say, running an entire shoot through broadcast for a uniform TV-still look, or through black and white - warm for a moody archival feel - this is the fast way to do it without hand-tuning a grade per image.

The only input that matters is look, the enum dropdown with those six choices. There's no strength or blend slider in the schema, so each preset applies at its fixed intensity - if you want a subtler version of the effect, the practical move is to run Cinematic Look and then blend the result back against the original with Image Overlay at partial opacity, which gives you a poor man's intensity control the node itself doesn't expose. The output is result_img.

Worth being honest about what this node is and isn't: it's a non-generative, whole-image re-grade. It doesn't understand content, doesn't segment the subject from the background, and can't fix problems that are baked into the render - blown highlights, muddy shadows, bad white balance from the base generation. It re-colors what's already there; it doesn't repair it. If your source image has real exposure or lighting problems, grading over them just gives you a stylized version of the same problems.

Installing it

Cinematic Look ships as part of the full Mikey Nodes pack. Through ComfyUI Manager, search "Mikey Nodes" and install. Manually:

Restart ComfyUI. Nothing extra to download for this node - it's pure image processing, no external LUT files or models required, which is the whole point versus the pack's HaldCLUT node.

Common issues

There isn't much that goes wrong here mechanically - it's a deterministic filter, not a generative step, so the same image and look combination will give you the same result every time. The thing people actually get tripped up on is expectations: this node can't selectively grade part of an image, and it can't be dialed in gradually beyond picking a different preset. If a look doesn't do what you want, the fix usually isn't "adjust a setting" (there isn't one) - it's either trying a different preset, blending the graded result against the original at reduced opacity with Image Overlay for a softer version, or accepting that a whole-image preset filter genuinely isn't going to replace a real color-grading pass if you need fine control.
